This Spider is an original 1997 (second series) Spanish market car with only 87000 kilometres recorded. An ideal first classic or villa car.
The Spider is presented in its best colour combination, a subtle metallic blue, fitted with new blue hood. Paint is original and the car has been well-preserved and maintained since new. Mileage of 87000kms is both genuine and low, under 4000kms/year.
The 916 was a bold departure for Alfa Romeo, introducing FWD to its convertible offer for the first time. The styling was contracted to Pinin Farina, whose bold wedge shape refuses to age. The one piece clam shell bonnet is a defining statement, sweeping up to the rear of the cabin and a classic Kamm tail.
The Spider was available with 3 different engine sizes, this one is the popular and reliable 2.0 litre 16v unit, which gives a healthy 150 bhp. The chassis is a re-inforced version of the coupe GTV, and is known for its dynamic handling, steering and brakes. Combined with an excellent 5 speed gearbox, the 916 Spider successfully moved the traditional Alfa Spider into the 21st century.
In line with the careful previous ownership, the interior is exactly as it left the factory, immaculately trimmed with tan leather and matching carpets in good condition, All gauges and switches function correctly. The hood is new, ordered and fitted by Italclassic, it is best quality and should last for a further 20 years. The 916 maintained the tradition of Alfa Spiders in having a very easy hood operation (when lowered it fits under an integrated cover) with modern standards of water resistance.
The car is fitted with electric windows and air-conditioning, so can be used on a daily basis. Spare parts are widely available to maintain the 916 series, which is a practical and economical modern sports car, with values set to rise for good examples.
