The Aston Martin DB6 Vantage Volante is one of the rarest and most desirable classic Aston Martins, blending the performance of the DB6 Vantage with the open-top luxury of the Volante convertible. Hereโs the history behind it:
The DB6 Series (1965-1971)
The Aston Martin DB6 succeeded the DB5 in 1965, offering improvements in aerodynamics, comfort, and practicality. It featured a longer wheelbase, better rear passenger space, and a more stable high-speed ride thanks to its Kamm-style tail.
Engine Options: The DB6 came with a 4.0-liter straight-six engine, developed by Tadek Marek, which was available in standard (282 hp) or Vantage-spec (325 hp) with higher-performance camshafts and triple Weber carburetors.
Design: It retained the classic Aston Martin styling but had a slightly raised roofline and longer tail for better aerodynamics.
The Volante (Convertible) Models
The DB6 Volante debuted in 1966 as Aston Martin's first official "Volante" (convertible) model. Only 140 DB6 Volantes were built, making them highly sought after.
The DB6 Vantage Volante
A rare, high-performance version of the DB6 Volante.
It featured the Vantage-spec engine, boosting power output to around 325 hp.
Only a handful were built, making it one of the most exclusive Aston Martins.
Luxury Features: Retained all the high-end interior finishes, including Connolly leather, Wilton carpets, and wooden dashboard elements.
Notable Owners & Legacy
The DB6 Volante is famous for being Prince Charles' car, which he received as a 21st birthday gift in 1969.
It remains an iconic British grand tourer, known for its blend of speed, elegance, and rarity.
